Free Crochet Pattern: Apple Tea Cozy

This pattern was originally published in 2009. I altered the pattern for this apple hat which is quite easy to do.

 

Crochet Pattern: Apple Tea Cozy

 

Supplies:

  • H hook
  • Red Heart Medium 4ply worsted in Hot red, Green, and Brown
  • Alternate (Green = limeade Wintuk size G hook)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers

Note – the thinner your yarn, the smaller hook size you will need 

Pattern Notes:

  • blo – back look only
  • flo – front loop only
  • both – work in both loops
  • Open stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • dc2tog – double crochet 2 stitches together aka decrease
  • sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together aka decrease
  • t-ch – turning chain

Cozy (Make 2)

chain 26

1: sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across (25sc) ch1 turn

2: sc in each st across, ch1, turn (25) 3 – 32: repeat row 2 thirty more times, end off.

Assembly:

Place each piece on the pot and mark with stitch markers the TOP and BOTTOM of the SPOUT and the HANDLE.

Sew the TOP (spout and handle) and BOTTOM (spout and handle) closed.

Take a length of yarn and weave into the top ( last row #32) in and out and cinch closed.

Sew remaining hole closed.

Stem: (brown)

chain 11 1sc in 2ned ch from hook and in each ch across, end off. Fold in half and sew closed, set-aside for later.

Large leaves: Make 2 in green

1: ch3, sl st in first chain made to form a circle

2: ch3, 3dc in circle, ch3 turn

3: 1dc in each stitch across, ch3 turn

4: 2dc in first stitch, 1dc in next 3 stitches, 2dc in last stitch (top of turning chain), ch3, turn

5: skip first stitch, 1dc in next stitch, dc2tog, 1 dc in next stitch, dc2tog, 1 dc in last stitch (top of t-ch), ch3, turn

6: skip first stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, dc2tog, 1dc in next st, ch3, turn

7: dc2tog, sc2tog, end off.

Small Leaves (make 2 in green)

Chain 7 1sc in second ch from hook, 1hdc in next stitch, 1dc in next stitch, 1dc in next stitch, 1hdc in next stitch, 1sc in next stitch. Working on opposite side of OPEN loops, 1sc, in next stitch, 1hdc in next stitch, 1dc in next 2 stitches, 1hdc in next stitch, 1sc in next stitch, sl st to the first sc made, ch1 end off.
