Since we are in the middle of the Crochet Business Blogging Challenge I wanted to you all to meet someone who has been right where you are now. Rhondda is a wonderful designer and a wonderful person. She was inspired to take the challenge last go round and get her crochet business up and going. Rhondda has agreed to share her experience from doing the last challenge and give you a few tips that she finds helpful. So without further ado, meet Rhondda of Oombawka Design.
“A year ago this month, Sara invited me to participate in CBBC – the Crochet Business Blogging Challenge.
The challenge was to post one blog-post a day, for the month of July.
I definitely hesitated before accepting this challenge – I had only occasionally blogged before this and only to notify people when I had a new pattern available, or to thank my pattern testers for trying my patterns.
I was not sure if I was ready to commit to 31-blog posts – I mean what would I have to share that anyone would want to read?
I was on Blogger at the time and totally clueless to blogging etiquette – what was acceptable practise and what was not.
It was definitely nerve-racking to take the leap – and to commit to myself that I would complete the challenge.
In the end, I did commit – and I am grateful I decided to participate.
The Crochet Business Blogging Challenge provided the fundamentals I needed to begin blogging.
It also helped me develop good blogging habits. The Challenge introduced me to social media sharing and encouraged me to use hashtags and to comment on other blog posts. I became comfortable with blogging and social media and learned a lot of valuable information from Sara’s daily posts and suggested writing prompts.
After the challenge was complete, I continued to post once a day (and I still do). I continued to share on social media sites and I began reaching out to other Bloggers – because honestly, we are all in this together!
I have formed some fantastic relationships with other people and made some real friends too!
I love what I do – I love sharing information with my readers and feeling like I am a part of something more.
As a Crochet Blogger – some things I find especially important are:
- photography – good photos are key!
- content – make each word you post count!
- have social media sharing buttons – easily accessible in your posts
- build good relationships with your readers and fellow bloggers
- stand behind everything you post – provide support and answer questions
- be consistent – people begin to count on you- so if you are going to be away – let them know!”
