Book Review: Crochet for Baby All Year by Tammy Hildebrand

Tammy Hildebrand’s Latest Book

**Disclosure** I was given a copy of the book “Crochet for Baby All Year” to review from Stackpole Publishing. Links in this post are my Amazon affiliate links and will earn a small commission.

Crochet for Baby All Year: Easy-to-Make Outfits for Every Month published by Stackpole Books is a collection of patterns for boys and girls.

Tammy says this book is inspired by the birth of her granddaughter Willow McKenzie. Just like many of us who crochet when we hear ‘baby’ we think little booties, hats, bows, and clothes. Willow was even a model for her Grandma’s patterns.

This book is separated into Months of the Year – January through December. Each has a pattern for boy and girl for a total of 20 designs.

It’s fitting that the book starts out with a Blessing Christening Gown. Rated Easy making it a perfect project for those who have been crocheting for at least a year. For those who are looking for something a bit more challenging Tammy’s Heirloom gown is perfect. Both gowns come with bonnet patterns.

February is the month of love. You’ll find an easy to make sweater for either girl or boy embellished with hearts.

March is for lovers of green. The Galway boy and Derry Girl Sweater and Hat set uses the Front post double crochet to give texture to this set. It’s more of a challenging stitch for beginners but it is possible to learn.

I remember learning this stitch from my teacher and although a bit awkward at first it is a stitch that I do easily now.

Each pattern in the book comes with detailed schematics showing measurements as well as assembly details.

Spring blossoms into a romper-hat set for the baby boy in your life and a dress-hat set for your little girl.

Ladybugs are the highlight for the month of May. This tank and hat set introduce color and chart work into your year.

Additional patterns include sandals, shorts, tops, overalls, jumpers, bonnets, dresses, and headbands.

For photo examples of each pattern, look inside the book on Amazon. You’ll see January, February, and March designs. Scroll to the bottom and you’ll find the thumbnail gallery for each design.

Two of the patterns I sampled are the Varsity Cheerleader girl dress for November and the Halloween Stegosaurus costume for October. (Hat)

The costume is super cute and includes a fiberfill stuffed tail and a spiky hat.

The gored skirt for the cheerleader dress can be made in your favorite team colors. (note- I worked a sample of 2-gores)

It’s been a while since I crocheted anything for tiny people. I forgot how small these garments are. You can make anything in this book in less than a month or even over a weekend depending on your skill level and speed.

Autumn comes around before you know it with it’s bright oranges and reds. (sweater and hat set)

The collection ends in December with bright red little pants for boys. This pattern includes little suspenders and a bow tie – are you squealing yet? oooohhhhh cute

Girls can show off their Holiday spirit with a Fun Fur bordered dress and hat. Using Lion Brand Vanna’s Glamour makes this outfit sparkle.

You can buy the paperback version of the Crochet for Baby All Year by Tammy Hildebrand starting August 15, 2014 on Amazon. It retails for $21.95.
