Last week you chose the stitch for your dishcloth, (or the design you have in your head) you made a gauge swatch with your yarn-hook and decided on the measurements for your square. (other shapes are acceptable :) it’s your design after all. )

That link will take you to the Create Crochet Patterns site. Simply enter your email address to access the worksheets.

On the note taking worksheet you’ll find a place to write the stitch you’re using, the yarn you’re using, hook size, and measurements. (your gauge will be noted here as well)

Once that is written just make your dishcloth, noting how many chains you start with, how many chains on a turn, how many rows, how many stitches, skips, increases or decreases, special stitches, joins, repeats etc.

Crochet (or Knitting) Terminology and Standards

Visit the Yarnstandard.com site to find a downloadable set of graphics for skill levels (easy, beginner, intermediate, advanced) as well as yarn weight.

You’ll also see a list of abbreviations that are standard in patterns and what they mean.

New Terminology:

For examples:

  • look at online sites like Lion Brand, Red Heart and YarnInspirations
  • look at magazines (each has their own)
