[#31cbcbcJanuary 2013] Creating an Active Call To Action

Writing Prompt: Develop a Call to Action post or post script. (This would be your RSS subscription form or your newsletter form) Let your readers know what you want them to do.

A call to action is simply telling your readers what you want them to do. Do you want them to sign up for your newsletter? Tell them to

sign up and show them how to do it in as few steps as possible. A simple way to do this is to use a postscript after each blog post.

Your postscript can include your signature and a newsletter signup capture form. You can also include links to your social media accounts.

Keep in mind that we as internet readers have short attention spans. This means that you need to tell what to do or show what to do in as little steps as possible.

Example: You want me to buy the hat you just posted about. To do this I need to go to your shop and buy it.

  1. Put a buy button right in the post
  2. If possible, set it up so when your reader clicks ‘buy’ it takes them straight to the cart not to your shop. i.e Etsy listing and not the general shop address.

Why Do You Want Them To Go Straight To The Cart?

It is one less step to completing the transaction, which is your ultimate goal – the sale. If your reader is taken to your shop they can get distracted with other products and even other ads which will take them away from your intended purpose which is to sell them the hat. When your reader is distracted or faced with too many choices they will NOT buy anything.

Include a call to action in your post today. Tell your reader what you want them to do. i.e. follow you on Twitter, Show them How
