{Day 5} 31 Days Preparing for Your First Craft Show – A Quick Crochet Project

Quick crochet projects are best when choosing products to sell at a craft show. Here’s a quick and always popular item – the dish cloth or wash cloth.

This uses the seed stitch which in my pattern uses the half double crochet and single crochet stitches. If you look up seed stitch in crochet you might find it calls for a double crochet instead of the hdc I use. (seed stitch dish cloth pattern)

I’m following along with Molly of mollyeleen.wordpress.com as she shares how she prepared for her first craft show. Want to follow along? Scroll down to the bottom of this post for the details.

Handmade Partnerships

Here’s an idea – Do you know someone who makes soap? You have a resale license, why not order a selection of scented soaps to sell at your booth? This would complement your wash cloths and encourage (up-sale) purchase of both the soap and the dish cloth. You might even consider giving a percentage off if bought together.

I know when I go to craft shows the items I see people looking at are usually the jewelry table and the soap and candle table. People like to touch, smell and taste things.

Make your dish cloths (wash cloths) in a super soft cotton so you attract the touchy people. You might have a sample so people are not touching the actual product that people are buying.

You can make partnerships out of anything. You might even virtually rent some of your booth space to help offset the cost of the event. You can offer complementary products like if you make scarves rent your space to someone who makes hats. You will need to keep accurate records and have a contract in place so your partner knows your terms and how profits will be split. (Do check to see if your partner has a resale license or consider buying wholesale. Check terms of show to see if renting or sharing booth space is allowed.)
