{Etsy} The Real Reason Your Etsy Store Isn’t Getting Traffic and Sales

The Relationship Between Etsy Sales and Traffic

Do you know the real reason your Etsy store isn’t getting the traffic and sales you want?

The Number one reason is a failed understanding of marketing – Not having a marketing plan is the second.

I’ve only recently re-opened my Etsy store so if you go look around I’m not a big time seller. In fact I only have one product in my store right now. What makes me think I can enlighten you on traffic and sales?

Do you spend your time checking Etsy daily for sales, chatting in forums, hosting giveaways, blogging, etc in order to increase traffic and sales? I did too.

In order to solve the dilemma of traffic and sales you first need to understand your target market. Without this piece of knowledge you are pretty much lost.

Once you know your target market you’ll need a marketing plan. By the way, advertising is not the marketing plan, it is just a marketing tool.

Crochet Business Blog will focus on how to get targeted sales and traffic to your shop. Don’t miss out sign up for Crochet Business Ezine for updates in your inbox each Sunday.

Understanding Traffic for Etsy Store Owners

Increasing Your Etsy Sales by Building Traffic the Right Way

2013- What I’ve Learned About Etsy Sales and Traffic

I was looking at traffic in the wrong way. Traffic is more than just numbers. High numbers are good but they aren’t beneficial if the traffic doesn’t want what I have to sell.

Let’s look at the following scenario: (not a scientific study okay folks)

  • 100 people viewed your product
  • 50 of those people were Etsy shop owners
  • 40 more stopped in via outside links with no interest in buying
  • Leaving you with 10 potential customers
  • Out of this 10 maybe 2 people are ready to buy a product right away
  • That leaves you with a potential of 2 sales out of 100 visits

Market Your Craft Without Going Broke by Crissy Herron

If you’re anything like me you might think swapping and participating in blog giveaways helps you boost sales. Yes and No.

In Theory you could introduce a potential customer to your product and have a repeat buyer. This would be true if your giveaway was marketed to your target market. More often than not though you have lost money and time in giving your stuff away.

I’m not saying that you need to stop swapping and participating in giveaways I’m just saying you need to have a plan. Use this as a marketing tool not as a sales tool.

Tip: Giveaways would go into your advertising and promotion budget. It’s an expense not a profit.
