Feed Me: Burn Baby Burn RSS

One of the reasons blogging is a great tool for your business is because of its RSS capabilities. Did that just go over your head? If you’re a blogger you probably already know all about RSS and how it relates to your blog but if you’re new to blogging – like we all were at one time – this is gibberish to you.

RSS is also known as Really Simple Syndication is simply a way to publish frequently updated work such as your blog or your podcast.

As a blogger why is this exciting?

Well, it lets your readers subscribe to your feed (RSS) either in a reader like Google Reader (no longer available) Bloglovin‘ or via their email. If your blog becomes really popular, you can offer it on Kindle or iPad as a monthly subscription so your readers can get updates even when they are not at home.

Today’s Assignment:

Today you will take the time to burn your blogs’ feed into feedburner. (video tutorial by Basic Blog tips) Again, why feedburner? If you have a blogspot blog or wordpress.com blog or self hosted blog it already has an RSS so why burn one? Feedburner has some nifty tools associated with it that makes it easy for you to track how many people are actually reading and sharing your posts.
