Janet and the Purple Panda Sales Funnel
Earlier this year I wrote an article about The Real Reason your Etsy store isn’t getting traffic and sales. In this piece I wrote about knowing your sales funnel. A little after I found a post by Janet which featured this brilliant little Purple Panda.
A sales funnel is a visual way of seeing the buying process of your customer. For instance, the top (head) is just the traffic coming into your shop or blog. The further the customer travels down the more devoted or loyal they are.
1. Build Trust
This is your blog and other means of driving traffic to your site. It can be Pinterest photos, tweets, videos, audio, or whatever you do to get your name and face out there.
2. Client Attraction
This is your email list. Once people start to get to know you from the above, they are ready to trust you with their email address. This is an opportunity to build a relationship.
3. Client Qualifying
Now your customer is getting a little close to you. You are qualifying her or checking to see if you are a match. Can you work together? Do you have what she needs? For a crochet seller this might be contacting you with color and fabric choices.
4. Sale
Your customer has made the commitment to buy something from you. You now send them the contract and it is legally binding. They agree to pay and you agree to deliver a good.
5. Service and Collaboration
When you do custom projects or large orders this is a deeper relationship. You are both committed and the project is longer than your normal ‘shop on Etsy’ relationship. i.e. Making 100 wedding roses for a customer
6. Post Sale
The sale should never be your find ‘goodbye’. Nurture your connection by following up with an email. Send a survey and get their opinion on your product, your service, and even on the packaging you use. (This is one of the reasons I am a firm believer in mailing lists for bloggers and business owners. ) It is through these emails that a deeper trust develops and a loyal customer blossoms.
7. Loyalty
Wouldn’t it be nice if you were the ‘go to’ person for luxury scarves? You betcha! Following through a sales funnel and really listening to your customer in order to meet their needs will naturally develop into a long-term union. Make a Loyalty Card mean something – only give it away to those who truly are those one-of-kind customers.
Visit the Purple Panda
Janet created a great little eBook as a companion to this cuddly guy so be sure to head on over to her site and request your copy.

Thanks for this!! Ive been trying to source this Panda for a while as the link I found to it was one of those annoying link-to sites rather than to the original source.
Your explanation has really helped me grasp what the infographic means as well.

I really like the Purple Panda Being a very visual person – it catches my attention
I think the Purple Panda is filled with very wise advice and I especially agree with the “nurture” part.
I think that goes for any relationship – once the connection is there – don’t let it slip through your fingers. Even if it is just a comment made on a blog post. If someone was nice enough to take the time to leave a comment – appreciate them. It is much easier to just click the “like” or “++” buttons – they made an effort and so should we
Happy Sunday!

I think the follow up (getting feedback and such) is one of the hardest things to remember to make time for, especially when you’re moving on to the next project.
Good info!

Amethyst, I know right? When Janet made this earlier this year, I fell in love with it. It speaks to me more than any other sales funnel I’ve seen. Janet is a creative and lives a soulful life so she had to express that in her sales funnel. I think she did an excellent job.
Cathy, thanks for stopping by. I just came from reading your post on finding your ideal clients. This is a topic I’m writing about this month. I just shared your blog post with my readers.
I like infographics as it makes for a quick post but also delivers great content.
Ivy, indeed it is a forgotten step in the whole sales process. Here’s an example of a great follow-up.
Earlier this year I visited a blog and she offered a free success kit CD. I signed up for her list and received the CD in the mail. (I haven’t listened to it yet) I forgot all about it until yesterday when I received a postcard. It was from her telling me to “Go Ahead and Toot Your Own Horn”.
Guess what? I’m definitely going to find that CD and listen to it now. Follow-through works. (NicholeRocks.com)
Rhondda, exactly! Nurturing your relationships is important and how much more important if they are your customers, the people who are supporting your business and your family’s lifestyle.
Yes, I knew when I was sharing sales funnels I would contact Janet about using hers. It is really a perfect visual for creative or soul purpose driven people.
Petra, I’m glad I was able to introduce you to Janet. She is a sweet person and her graphic design skills are (as you can see) AWESOME!
