Learning Crochet: How to Crochet a Beard

This entry is part 4 of 19 in the series Learning Crochet

Back in 2008 I received a custom order on etsy for a bearded hat similar to Vik Prjonsdottirs’ (Iceland)hat.(scroll down to the bottom of the page for a photo of his Original Beard hat.)

I came up with a design that the customer liked and in October of that same year entered it in the Instructables Costume Contest. I won second place thanks to my online friends who voted by visiting my entry. (106,000 views)

Since then many people have tried their hand at that pattern, altering it and making it their own, which is the beauty of the creative commons share alike license. You might want to visit the Instructables site to view the comments with user photos to get your own idea.

I shared the pattern with my blog readers in this post Crochet Mustache and Beard Hat Pattern. I also wrote a squidoo page about it adding links to other crocheters designs. There are a couple of knitted patterns in there as well. I also added TaraDuff’s bearded beanies because I am such a fan of her work.

All this background to let you know that as I was on Youtube yesterday I came across The Easiest Crochet Beard by Emi - Hectanooga.Etsy.com. She takes you from beginning to end on how to crochet the beard, add it to a beanie or add loops to wear the beard on its own.

I like this crochet beard pattern because it is simple and easily added to any beanie hat. Just in time for Christmas you can now crochet one or two for your friends.
