Learning Crochet: Lattice Stitch

The lattice stitch is worked in a multiple of 2 + 1 chain. This means that you’ll need 2 chains for each stitch pattern plus one turning chain.

For this example you’ll make an even amount of chains i.e. 30 plus 1 turning chain.

Abbreviations:
hdc – half double crochet
ch – chain
* – repeat within stars
ch-sp – chain space

First Row:
Make a hdc in the fifth chain from your hook, *ch1, skip next ch, hdc in next ch* repeat across

Second Row:
ch 2 turn (counts as first hdc); hdc in first ch-sp, *ch1, hdc in next ch-sp* repeat across

Third Row:
ch3, turn, (counts as first hdc plus chain 1), hdc in first ch-sp, ch1, *hdc in next ch-sp, ch 1* repeat across

Fourth Row:
ch2, turn; hdc in first ch-sp, *ch1, hdc in next ch-sp* repeat across

Now make it as long as you want by repeating rows 3 and 4.

If you continue on in this pattern to make it 60″ long it can be your first crochet scarf.

*Note – I used a M crochet hook and 4ply acrylic yarn for the sample.
