Back when I used to do a lot of swaps on Swap-Bot.com I participated in a yarn swap. My partner gave me a ball of T shirt yarn because it was on my favorites at Etsy.com. At the time I had never used it so was very curious as how it would work up.
I knitted a heating pad from it. To make t shirt yarn you just need a washed tee shirt and a pair of scissors. Cut your shirt in a spiral the width you want your yarn to be. Check out the video by KnitPicks (below) for a really cool way to join the strips of yarn.
