Membership Sites for Recurring Income
In 2011, I decided to offer a membership service on the Crochet Liberation Front website. I noticed that a lot of crochet makers and designers needed help with their marketing and promotions. I also know there is a lot of information to learn about how to do successfully do business on-line or offline and that I can help people learn what they need to know to reach their goals.
Launching Successes and Failures
After six months of research, finding the right software that met my budget and membership needs, and building the content for the launch, I hit the button on January 31, 2012.The website died… After a massive panic attack that involved hysterical tears, I discovered that I had to scale down my lofty ideas for the site because the hosting couldn’t handle the heavy load I’d placed on the site.
Congratulations on the Birth of Hookey.org
In February 2012, Hookey.org was born to meet the social needs of crochet makers and designers, and the CLF site remained the blog and member site delivering content people need to move their businesses forward.
I Love Having a Membership Service
I love the membership service, when people use all of the information that’s provided to them they get results. Hearing people’s stories about how they’ve taken their next steps to creating a better life for themselves and their families is the biggest reward I can think of! Ensuring that no matter what level membership you have, you get good, solid info to help you grow and affordable access to information that most small businesses pay thousands of dollars for, is really important to me.
Was it easy to learn everything to make the member site work? No, it took time, patience, and being willing to keep trying even when the software was glitching. Now that it’s been running for a year, new ideas, fresh information just keeps flowing to help people grow and flourish in a bad economy.
The Let’s Do Better Program Opens for Members
As of March 2013, the Let’s Do Better Program is a monthly membership subscription that gives you access to great content for under $8 a month. With a member site you can constantly adjust your services to meet the needs of your membership and serve new members. It’s a wonderful way to serve others and earn an extra income for yourself; I call that a win-win!

One day I want to sign-up for this site I’m on Hookey but I am not able to pay membership fees at this time as a stay-at-home Mom on a very tight budget!
I wish the post included examples of what services/articles were included in the membership.

Rhondda, I think there are previews or at least titles. In the backend there are templates for writing patterns, a business to business directory, and some other goodies.
