Review: Crochetville’s Crochet Business Mastermind Group

Do You Need A Mastermind Group ?

Are you stuck in “I don’t know what to do next” mode? Do you need your crochet business questions answered? Would you like advice from fellow business owners and from those seasoned in the crochet world?

You probably know Crochetville as the place to hangout with other crocheters as well as a place to find awesome crochet patterns BUT did you know they also offer assistance to business owners?

Crochetville has a Crochet Business Mastermind Group. This is unlike the mastermind group I’m involved with as their group is specific to crocheters.  Amy and Donna started Crochetville 9 years ago. Both are professional members of CGOA – Crochet Guild of America. Basically if you have a question about starting a business and getting involved as a designer, seller, and/or tech editor they can either help you directly or point you in the right direction.

Psst – Find out how you can win a one-month membership to CMG on Crochetville

I contacted them about reviewing their group as I like to know about the product or service I review from first hand experience. I was told that the group is specific to business owners and they watch very carefully what goes on in the group. My idea of  ‘trying out the group‘ was against their policies and I totally understand. The next best thing is a testimonial from someone who actually belongs to their group.

Meet LeAnna of The Eccentric Haus Frau

When I first signed up for the Mastermind, it was happening right around the holidays and I honestly was worried that having weekly meetings would burn me out while trying to do other business related things and holiday things.  However, the opposite proved to be true for me.

It was really a matter of accountability.  That I would say that I would work on x, y and z goals for the week and then Saturday (at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Coast Time no less) would roll around and I would be able, more times than not, say that I worked on those goals.  It really was the shot in the arm I needed.

Being inspired by the other participants in what they were doing and being able to ask opinions of particular software (like for charting crochet patterns) and getting good feedback from the others.

My business is still very much in the beginning stages, so most of my focus during this first phase of the Mastermind group, I have been backtracking and working on setting up my office, files, and craft work space (because I do more than crochet in my business.)

I noticed, for the most part, that everyone’s business is a little different.  Not everyone is a designer for example and I do more than crochet in my business…still the basics of just getting up every day and figuring out how to maintain and yet continue to move forward with the business goals are the same for most everyone.

Mastermind helped keep me motivated and moving forward. ~ LeAnna Nocita-Lyons

What Do You Get As a Member

  1. Group Support
  2. Accountability (aka a butt kicking to take action on your business goals)
  3. Access to Amy and Donna who are professional members of CGOA meaning they can answer questions about designing for publication and networking within the professional crochet biz community that I can not offer you here
  4. A place to chat with others who are trying to make it as well as those who are doing it quite successfully
  5. Confidentiality – this is big and a plus for their group. What you share stays in the group – the reason I was unable to ‘try out’ the group
  6. Small groups limited to 15 people so you get the attention you need

How Much Does it Cost?

Amy and Donna both know that many crocheters are on limited budgets so they offer their group at a super low price. $15/month. Yes, you read that right. My eyes did a double take when I read that.

The mastermind group I belong to is well over $300 which works out to $34.97 per month. I like my mastermind group and learn each day with them plus I get great accountability.

I mention the group I’m involved with as a reference point. Mastermind groups are normally hundreds even thousands of dollars so what Amy and Donna are offering the crochet community is beyond great.

Investing in your business is something you will be doing often. For a crochet centered business their group can get you going in the right direction plus they have contacts that strictly business centered groups don’t have.

Psst – I’m giving away 1-month membership to one blog reader find out more

Cons of the Crochet Mastermind Group

This is difficult for me to address having not been a part of this specific group. I can tell you this – if you are looking for someone to hold your hand, give you a list of ‘to do’s’ and expect to see success in the form of money – a Mastermind group is NOT for you.

Masterminds are group efforts. They offer information, an ear to listen, a place to bounce ideas off of and even possible partnership opportunities. (friendship too) They however will not do the work that only you can do and believe me business is work.

Conclusion

I recommend their group for those starting out. As a monthly subscription membership you can stop when you feel like it. You can also grow within their group because they have different levels for beginners and advanced business owners.

My particular business has crochet in it but it is not the main focus of my business as an independent contract writer. I currently don’t sell crochet, I am not a member of CGOA which for those wanting a deeper involvement in the crochet business community looks to be not only a necessity but a valuable asset.

  1. I may have to check them out, as I am in definitely in the beginning stages of my business, and can use all the guidance I can get.
    Great post as usual Sara!

    • Yes, ZaMarah I think it is very useful if you want to connect within the crochet business circle. Amy and Donna have been around and have connections and knowledge that can help you in your quest as a pattern designer. One thing I learned (3 people I respect have told me this) for connections and mentorship CGOA is invaluable which as members themselves, I’m sure Amy and Donna will agree.
