{Crochet Business Interview} Cre8tion Crochet

Hooking Her Way to Success

Lorene is the blogger and designer behind Cre8tion Crochet. She is working to make a mark on the crochet world by selling her crochet on Etsy and in local retail stores. Read how she is doing it and learn from her journey. (Thank you Lorene for visiting CB)

Did you set out to make money with crochet or was it an afterthought? How did you get started?

I began to crochet as a hobby and to make a gift for my best friend who was expecting her first baby. Making money with my talent was an afterthought that didn’t come to me until people started to offer me money to make items for them.

What is the main income stream from your crochet?

My main income has been selling finished items, mostly in boutiques and retail stores but it is starting to be earned most with my blog.

How do you market your crochet business and/or crochet blog?

I mostly market my blog as I intend to steer further away from selling. I market it on many fb pages, in crochet forums, on pattern directories and by doing guest spots such as this. I look for every oppurtunity to promote my blog.

How long was it until you really saw your financial goals being met?

My goals are ever changing. I have exceeded the goal I set for my blog in November when I really began to focus on it, and now I have set a new goal that I hope to attain by the end of the year. I dream BIG!!!

Any advice you’d give someone just starting a crochet business?

  • When it comes to blogging…. Patience. It takes a lot of work and you won’t get paid for your time in the beginning. Advertise and share your blog wherever you can. Try to come up with unique and individual patterns as well as some mainstream patterns.
  • When it comes to selling finished items my only advice is don’t sell yourself short. Charge accordingly for your time. This is a business, treat it as such.
