A part of having an email list is having subscribers. One way people get subscribers is by offering their readers a little bribe or freebie. This can be as simple as a discount code, free shipping or even a free crochet pattern. Notice on this blog I offer email subscribers a short PDF of 365 crochet blog topics.

Do you have a bribe set up on your site? If not, maybe these will give you an idea of what to offer your readers as a thank you for allowing you into their inbox each week.

  1. Delsies Crochet Newsletter offers subscribers free patterns
  2. Planet June gives subscribers advanced notice to new patterns she releases as well as updates.
  3. Designing Vashti offers updates, pattern giveaways, tips, techniques and free patterns
  4. CrochetSpot offers a free robot pattern
  5. Lion Brand yarn offers new product alerts, new patterns and crochet stitches and techniques
  6. Red Heart  offers free patterns, tips on new products, blog updates and crochet tips
  7. Momwithahook Crochets – 25 free crochet patterns with right to sell finished items

  1. I am definitely not against ANY sort of a bribe. Hhmmnn…let me rephrase that. There is a moral hesitation for just any bribe, although I definitely agree to bribing customers and small children (I do that on occasion). But I like to call them “motivations”, it just sounds nicer :-P All very good ideas here, thank you so much for your time and consideration.

  2. I think the business term for “bribes” with regards to newsletters is the ethical bribe. It is a motivation to sign up for the newsletter. Some people will sign up just to get the “ethical bribe” while others will truly want to read what you have to say.

  3. I offer discounts on all newly released crochet patterns and every once in awhile, I throw in a coupon code for all my patterns. For example, National Crochet Month is a great time to get people hooking and the best way to do that, IMO, is a reduce-priced pattern.

  4. Ami, that is great. I know for me, I love receiving discounts on patterns. Thanks for sharing your newsletter
