Pinterest is a new social media site that allows it’s users to pin items to a board much like a bulletin board at a laundromat. (please read terms and conditions)
At first it was a great little site to use for inspiration for projects. It’s now turned into the “place” to find new and interesting information.
For crochet bloggers it can be a spring board of ideas for new crochet posts, crochet projects and yarn color combinations.
1. Create a Board using a Keyword
i.e. “Learning Crochet” This way Google picks up your board when people are searching for ways to learn crochet. If they follow your board they might just visit your blog.
2. Share Your Pins Generously.
Be sure to add a bit of description of what the pin is about not just a “.” period. You can do this easily by highlighting a few sentences before you click the “pin” button. It will automatically add that information to the text box.
3. Make Friends But Be Selective.
Pinterest allows you to follow certain people’s boards. You can either follow all their boards or just certain boards like “crochet“.
4. Be Social.
Sometimes it’s easy to just click “like” and be on your way. The real beauty of Pinterest is that you can pin to your boards, interact via commenting and invite other members to pin to your board.
5. Regulate Your Time Wisely.
It is so easy to waste 30 minutes to 1 hour checking out all the lovely boards, reading the articles related to the boards and imagining what we will do if we had the money to decorate the home as we dream. Don’t let it zap your time away from your family or your job of earning for your family. Its’ best to start out with a limit and stick to it.
Pinterest is yet another avenue you can use to market yourself and interact with your crochet community. You don’t have to have an account but it makes it easier to interact with those who do.

Thanks, Sara.
Nice summary! Pretty exciting the way people are expanding how useful Pinterest can be. I'm starting to get active there, too, especially about sharing a comment whenever someone re-pins something of mine.
How do you feel about sending a “thank you” to people who LIKE one of your pins? Good idea? What's the best way to reach them?
Sara Duggan says
@Robbie, sending a thank you to people who like one of your pins can get a bit overwhelming but doing it every so often might be a great habit. Commenting on re-pins is great idea – not something I've done yet but something I will consider.
