Today I’d like to feature the stitch which is called ‘cross stitch‘ or ‘criss cross‘ MikeysSmall on youtube calls it. This is simply a double crochet stitch that crosses over another double crochet stitch. Simple right?
I made this 6×6 inch square this morning in order to demonstrate this stitch. You can’t really tell in the photo but there is a slight difference if you choose to cross the stitch in back than if you cross it in the front.
MikeysSmall on Youtube teaches it with the stitch going behind the dc just made but I learned it going in front of the stitch just made. [I find most people go in front]
I used this stitch in the Free Skullie Crochet Pattern to bring an otherwise boring double crochet hat some dimension. If you visit the page I just made about this stitch ‘Criss Cross Crochet’ on Squidoo, I gathered some video tutorials which show you various ways of making the stitch as well as how to make a hat using this stitch.
I also gathered a number of crochet patterns using the cross stitch crochet. Some include a baby sweater, a dishcloth, a 6×6 square [photo above], a beret, an afghan, and a sundress.
Cross stitching is pretty easy, if you hate sewing then I am pretty sure that you will like this because you will have a pattern to follow to form an image or picture and you use a cloth with very small holes where you will put the needle and thread.
I’ve never tried it but it might be something I can try.
