Hi dear readers. Each Friday I like to highlight a crochet business. Today we have Melissa of Mel’s Daisy Patch visiting.
Q: Did you set out to make money with crochet or was it an afterthought? How did you get started?
Mel’s Daisy Patch: I never dreamed I would be selling my crochet items, let alone patterns that I had designed, online in a shop.
My mom taught me the basics of crochet when I was around 6 or 7, but I never really had much interest in it then. Then about 25 years later, she died due to a car accident. That’s when I decided that, because it was something she had always wanted me to do, I would try again.
I ran out to the store and purchased one of those “I Taught Myself to Crochet” kits and the rest is history. It became a way to deal with the grief of losing my mom as well as an outlet for my creativity.
Q: What is the main income stream from your crochet?
Mel’s Daisy Patch: Designing patterns and selling them in my different online shops.
Q: How do you market your crochet business and/or crochet blog?
Mel’s Daisy Patch: Mostly online and word of mouth.
Q: How long was it until you really saw your financial goals being met?
Mel’s Daisy Patch: Things are starting to pick up now that I have started designing more. I would love to see sales continue to rise enough to be able to help bring in enough income so that I don’t have to go back to working outside the home.
Q: Any advice you’d give someone new to starting a crochet business?
Mel’s Daisy Patch: Don’t get discouraged. It can be a slow start and very frustrating. Also, make sure before you start your business or a blog, that no one out there has the same name you plan to use. I had this happen to me with the blog I was using and had to switch it all over to a new one due to the fact that someone opened a store on Etsy by the same name.
About Mel’s Daisy Patch:
I design and sell crochet patterns. I have a wide range of things that I design. There is everything from stuffed animals to baby blankets to pot holders. I also design cross stitch patterns as well.
I currently have 4 places that my designs can be purchased.
Thank you Melissa for sharing your crochet business with my readers. I pray you have increased growth in your business this year.
