Should You Make or Buy Your Crochet Business Cards?

If you own a crochet business pretty soon you are going to need business cards. There are a number of options for you to choose from when buying crochet business cards. You can make them yourself, buy them from a local printer or buy them on-line.

Print Them Yourself

The first option is probably the most economical. Just purchase card stock from the local office supply store and print them yourself. You can also opt to have a stamp made with your logo and information so that you can just stamp your cards when needed.

The downside to making your own business cards is that your designs are limited by your ability. So, if you are a great designer, this is quite economical however if you aren’t so great at graphic design it might take you a while to get the professional look you want.

Have Them Printed Locally

Second, you can visit your local print shop and choose from a number of pre-made designs. Depending on the service you use this can be very costly. Some shops might have a large minimum order and if you are a small business 1000 business cards might not be the best investment.

Order Them Online

Another option you have is to order your crochet business cards on-line. A number of small graphic designers offer a print service as well. A few of the larger print companies offer decent cards at reasonable prices. One particular company offers 250 cards free – all you do is pay shipping which in most cases is a steep price.

Print On-Demand

Finally you can choose to use a combination of the first and second options. This is available through print on demand shops. Choose a designer you like or make your own design and upload to the server. Customize the design further with your information then place your order. Your cards are only printed when you place your order. This option can get pricey depending on the design details and paper you choose to use but buying in bulk saves you money overall.

No matter if you choose to make your own business cards at home, use a local print shop, a printing business on-line or a print on demand service use the same creativity in your cards as you do your crochet work. Your business card is one of the first representations of you your customer sees – make it a good one.

  1. Very true today that your business card is the first representation of you and it must be a good one. You have provided some good ideas. Thanks. Wendy UBC

    • Wendy, Yes indeed it is the first YOU that many people meet. I think adding your online avatar as well as your website and email might be beneficial to keeping your face in their memory.

  2. I’m not into crocheting, but I did have my small handmade jewelry one for a while and I designed my business card, but printed it (almost) locally. Yes, I needed to print quite a bunch, but then again – I have maybe 20 or 30 left :) I think that if you’re creative in nature, you can do this on your own -it might not be perfect, but it will be definitely showing your personality!

    • I actually like the more creative business cards especially if they come from artists. For more professional businesses I do believe having them done by a professional printer is better. Thanks Renata for stopping by via UBC.

  3. I have both made my own and had them designed and printed at a local print centre. While the latter is definitely more expensive, the options they gave me actually saved me money in the long run. I was able to order a small amount of cards with a unique design and layout that has made me stand out to customers and other traders as well!
I think that sometimes printing at home can be false economy. After you have bought the cardstock, designed, printed and cut the cards yourself, I think that it can actually be more economical to find a good value print centre. It was deifinitely worth it to me.

    • For clean design I’d definitely go with a printer. Sometimes though you can make your own from recycled material depending on the branding of your business. i.e. if you do environmentally friendly stuff your market might enjoy recycled cards made from things you would trash other wise.
I’ve seen people reuse old books and sew fabric on the back and corners. It made an impression on me.
